Sorrento, a turistic seaside resort is situated on the northerly coast of the Sorrento Peninsular, on a tufa terrace overlooking the Gulf of Naples.
Dominated throuhgout history by the Siracusans, Samnites and Romans, it became Bizantine and then in the IX century a free comunity. In 1133 it was dominated by the Normans after which it became incorporated into the kingdom of Naples and followed its ruling.
Sorrento today is divided between the Marina Piccola and Marina Grande, rich with bathing establishments in the Summer Season.
Things to Se. The Cathedral, built in the year one thousand and modified in the XV century; the Sedil Dominova, a historic administrative seat constructed in the IVth century, the remains of a Roman Arch; the monument dedicated to the Sorrentine Poet, Torquato Tasso born in the XVI century.
